A Toledo man told police he was assaulted and robbed of his sports utility vehicle early yesterday, and the vehicle later was involved in an accident on the Anthony Wayne Bridge, police said.

Tony Franco, 33, was treated at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. He told police he left a bar at Knapp Street and Broadway about 2:15 a.m. and was making a cell-phone call from his vehicle when two men approached him and punched him in the face through an open window.

Mr. Franco got out of his vehicle to fight back and was hit across the back of his legs with a baseball bat, causing him to fall, police said. Both suspects fled after the accident on the bridge.
