Toledo police are seeking information through the Crime Stopper program about a man who robbed a 90-year-old woman of nearly $900 and assaulted one of her relatives who was trying to protect her.

The women arrived at the victim's house in the 1500 block of Buckingham Street about 12:15 p.m. Dec. 3. As the victim stepped onto the porch, the man climbed over the railing and ran up to her, pushing her down the steps, police said.

The relative ran to help the victim and laid on top of her. The man hit the relative in the side of the head with the handle of a paring knife and tried to take her purse. During the struggle, the money, which was in two envelopes the victim was holding, fell to the ground. The man grabbed the envelopes and fled, police said. The victim suffered a scratch on her hand.

The man was described as black, in his 20s, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, wearing a black and white-plaid shirt, blue jeans, and a blue knit cap. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stopper program. Callers may remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward.
