$5,000 reward offered for clues in sex attacks

The City of Toledo is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a man who has raped at least three women and tried to sexually assault at least four more in South Toledo and nearby Springfield Township since 1997.

Mayor Jack Ford is to announce the reward today at a news conference in Government Center. He will be joined by representatives of the Rape Crisis Center and police.

The attacks have occurred at multiunit housing complexes from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Police said the rapes occurred Aug. 3, 1997, in the 2400 block of South Holland-Sylvania Road; April 30, 1999, in the 5400 block of Heatherdowns Boulevard, and July 12 in the 2400 block of Cheyenne Boulevard.

The attempted assaults took place June 14, 1997, in the 6200 block of Garden Road; July 2, 1997, in the 1400 block of South Holland-Sylvania; July 19 in the 5400 block of Glenridge Drive, and Nov. 5 in the 5500 block of Glenridge.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned or mixed-race black man or a man of mixed ethnicity with an olive-colored complexion.

He is in his late 20s to 30s, at least 6 feet, 1 inch tall, and more than 200 pounds. He has broad shoulders, may have a pot belly, and dark hair. He may wear a diamond stud earring and glasses.
