A blaze of unknown origin yesterday caused an estimated $30,000 damage to a vacant three-unit apartment building under renovation at 3365 Glenwood Avenue near Castle Boulevard, authorities said.

A neighbor dialed 911 at 5:28 p.m. to report the fire in the building owned by Frankie Gordon, of 1920 Parkdale Ave. Two minutes later, the first fire crews arrived and discovered the blaze in the first-floor bathroom of the three-story wood-frame structure, Battalion Fire Chief Tony Gregory said.

Firefighters had the blaze under control within 10 minutes, by which time the blaze had spread up a bathroom wall to the upper floors.

The cause of the fire, which had started in a bathroom wall, is under investigation, Chief Gregory said.
