A Toledo man was charged yesterday with robbing the National City Bank branch, 3890 Monroe St., earlier in the day of an undisclosed amount of money, authorities said.

Carlus Buckson, 32, of 1608 1/2 Cone St. was charged with one count of bank robbery. He was ordered held in the Lucas County jail during an initial appearance before Magistrate Vernelis Armstrong in U.S. District Court. A detention hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

A man entered the bank about 10:45 a.m. and held up his hand with a rag covering what was believed to be a weapon. He demanded money and fled on foot, authorities said.

Shortly thereafter, a man who matched the suspect's description was detained by members of Toledo Police Department's directed patrol unit, who were serving a search warrant at a nearby residence, FBI Special Agent Lou Genide said.

He said the man was stopped in the 1700 block of Wellesley Drive, a few blocks from the bank. Authorities found a large amount of cash on him when he was taken into custody. No weapon was found.
