A 35-year-old Toledo man was charged with aggravated robbery yesterday after he claimed to have a gun and took cigarettes and a lighter from a BP station in West Toledo, police said.

Fitzgerald Hankins of 1305 Vance St. walked into the station, 3126 Secor Rd., about 4 a.m. with a red rag wrapped around his left hand, indicating he had a gun.

The suspect demanded money. The clerk, Dawson Fangman, didn't think it was a gun and refused to give the suspect any cash, police said.

The suspect walked around the counter and took the cigarettes and the lighter. He left the store and was arrested in a nearby parking lot.

Mr. Hankins was being held in the Lucas County Jail pending arraignment in Toledo Municipal Court.
