Toledo police seek fresh information about 1998 murder

11/23/2002

The Toledo Police Department is seeking information through the Crime Stopper program about the 1998 murder of a Toledo teenager.

Paul Wiggins, 17, of West Central Avenue, was found beaten to death Nov. 22, 1998, on the kitchen floor of an apartment at 3327 North Detroit Ave.

The youth was hit repeatedly in the head, chest, and abdomen with a heavy instrument and had been dead two or three days, according to the Lucas County Coroner's Office.

A girlfriend of Walter Triplett, who lived in the apartment, found the body and called police.

Triplett was charged with murder in the teen's death. However, in March, 1999, the charge was dismissed in Lucas County Common Pleas Court because of evidentiary problems.

Police think there are witnesses with information who could be helpful in the investigation.

The witnesses or anyone with information about the murder are asked to call the Crime Stopper program.

Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
