Cause of Coventry Ave. fire is under scrutiny

12/3/2002

A suspicious fire yesterday caused about $35,000 damage to a two-story house at 1110 Coventry Ave., Toledo fire investigator Michael Smith said.

The fire, reported about 2:10 a.m., started in a rear bedroom on the first floor. It appears someone entered the house through a side door. Accelerants may have been used in the blaze, Mr. Smith said.

The occupant, Quinette Chenevert, 32, and her three children, ages 10, 11, and 14 weren't home when the fire began. They were staying at a hotel because of an earlier incident in which someone broke a window in the house. The family left the house because they were scared, Mr. Smith said.

Maggie Harris of Toledo owns the house. The Greater Toledo Chapter of the American Red Cross assisted three adults and five children with lodging, clothes, and food, spokeswoman Kristen Cajka said.
