Police seeking tips about man's shooting death

12/28/2002

Toledo police are seeking information through the Crime Stopper program about the shooting death of Marlon Garrett during an apparent robbery attempt at his house Sunday.

A man approached the side door of Garrett's house, 1316 Upton Ave., about 8 p.m. and confronted the 29-year-old victim as the door was being opened. The suspect demanded money, extending his arm through the open door, as Garrett tried to push the door shut, police said.

Garret was shot and then sought help at several residences before collapsing on a front porch about a block away on Upton. He died a short time later at Toledo Hospital. Authorities said the bullet went through his left arm and then hit the left part of his chest. A large-caliber bullet was recovered during an autopsy.

The suspect is described as a young black male with a light to medium complexion and smooth skin. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stopper.
