1 arrested, 3 wanted in gang-related shooting

One man was arrested and three others were charged in the gang-related shooting Sunday of a central city man, Toledo police said.

Deon Brown, 24, who gave an address of 4445 Elmdale Ave. when he was booked into the Lucas County jail, is charged with one count each of attempted murder and kidnapping. He turned himself in to police yesterday and is scheduled to appear today in Toledo Municipal Court.

The other three men, who were not in custody last night, each are wanted on warrants charging them with one count of kidnapping. They are Michael Dula, 18, of 869 Hamilton St.; Gabriel Taylor, 21, of 2126 Horton St., and Henry Harris, 21, of 2295 Ashland Ave.

Brian Johnson suffered wounds in his arm and chest as a result of the shooting at Detroit and Highland avenues. He was in serious condition yesterday in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Police said the suspects are members of the Bloods gang and were seeking retaliation for a fight the night before with a Crips gang member. Mr. Johnson was targeted the next day because of his friendships with Crips gang members, according to police. He is not a gang member, said Detective Keith Zaborowski of the gang task force.

He said the fight Feb. 8 was between rival gangs over gang colors.

The investigation is continuing. More arrests are pending.
