Glenwood Ave. blaze leaves couple homeless

2/17/2003

A morning fire in the 3300 block of Glenwood Avenue caused about $25,000 damage and left a couple homeless yesterday.

Toledo Battalion Chief Tony Gregory said fire crews received a call at 8:43 a.m. from Melvin McCoy, who lives at 3332 Glenwood. Mr. McCoy told firefighters he and his wife were watching television when they noticed smoke coming from the kitchen.

Chief Gregory said the cause of the fire has not been determined but investigators are calling it accidental because they believe no foul play was involved. Firefighters first noticed smoke in the rear of the two-story home on the first floor.

They later discovered that the fire ran up a wall onto the second floor and attic, Chief Gregory said. He said the McCoys left the home safely, and no firefighters were injured.
