Police look for links in 3 enticement incidents
3/13/2003Northwood and Oregon police are working together to see if three child-enticement cases within about a week are related.
The latest incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. last Thursday in Northwood when a 9-year-old boy who was walking on Hanson Street toward his home saw a man in a car, who motioned for the boy, police said.
About 4 p.m. Feb. 26, a man tried to lure a 9-year-old boy to his car on Morgan Street after school. The boy heard a man tell him to “come here,” but the boy continued to walk. The man called to him again, and the boy ran. The man started chasing him but then returned to his car, Northwood police said.
“It's two different vehicles, and that's all we have right now,” Northwood police Detective Jeff Zahradnik said yesterday.
The man involved in the Hanson Street incident had a “a dull gray car with some type of rack on the roof. It was old looking,” the detective said.
In the Morgan Street incident, the vehicle was described as a red car with four doors.
About an hour after the Northwood incident in February, something similar occurred in Oregon.
An 8-year-old boy was walking in the 3200 block of Lantern Drive about 5 p.m. when a man in a green car with two doors pulled up to him and the man told him to get in the car. The boy fled and did not look back, police said.
“It's such a difference with the color of the cars, but there are time factors,” Oregon police Detective Bill Dewey said.
“We haven't gotten very far because we have so little to go on,” Detective Dewey said. “He didn't even see the driver. We haven't had anything since then.”
