Pound of cocaine seized; Toledo man is arrested

5/2/2003

A central Toledo man was arrested after more than a pound of cocaine with an estimated street value of $120,000; a handgun, and $19,590 cash were seized by authorities searching his house.

Ralph W. Reed, Jr., 42, of 1820 Lawrence Ave., was arraigned yesterday in Toledo Municipal Court on charges of drug abuse (possession of cocaine) and weapons under disability. He was released from the Lucas County jail after posting a $15,000 bond.

Police searched Reed's house about 5 p.m. Wednesday after a six-month investigation. They found the powder cocaine and some of the money in a book bag in a closet in the hot tub room, and about $6,000 in a hutch drawer in the dining area. A 40-caliber semi-automatic handgun was found between the mattress in Reed's bedroom, authorities said.

Reed wasn't home when police arrived, but showed up while they were there.
