Man rams pickup into two convenience stores

Police said a man driving a pickup truck ran it into the front of two convenience stores, taking numerous cartons of cigarettes in the second crime early yesterday.

Authorities said at about 1:18 a.m. yesterday store cameras caught on videotape a man driving his pickup into the Sterling Food Store, 6008 Secor Rd. Police said the door to the store was damaged, but entry was not made.

About 1:25 a.m., police believe the same truck rammed into Petros Food, Inc., 5086 Douglas Rd. Police said substantial damage was done to the front of the building and the suspects made off with multiple cigarette cartons.

Police Capt. Mark Mason said vehicles used in incidents like yesterday's often are stolen, but he did not know if the truck used yesterday was. Police have not located the vehicle or any other suspects.
