HILLSDALE — A Hillsdale apartment building sustained extensive damage in a fire Wednesday evening.

Firefighters were called to the building at 72 Cherry Tree at 6:45 p.m. and found it “well involved” with flames coming from the attic, Hillsdale fire Lt. Eric Pressler said. Four upstairs units were heavily damaged by flames and smoke, while downstairs apartments were damaged mostly by water.

Lieutenant Pressler said the blaze apparently started on the second floor. The state fire marshal's office was investigating yesterday, but Lieutenant Pressler said the fire didn't appear to be suspicious.

No one was injured. No damage estimate was available.
