The Lucas County Sheriff's Department has charged a 39-year-old Springfield Township woman with filing a false police report in connection with her disappearance this month.

Detective Rob Sarahman said Tondra L. Smith of McCord Road lied when she told authorities she was abducted by two men at a gas station on Hill Avenue in Toledo and escaped in Georgia while she was missing from June 6 to June 17.

The detective said the woman now says she lelt the area to get away from family problems.

The woman missed her daughter's graduation from Springfield High School and the case generated media attention.

A car the woman borrowed was found in Cobb County, Ga., near Atlanta, and she was located later in Jacksonville Beach, Fla.

“A lot of police agencies put a lot of man-hours into this case,” Detective Sarahman said.

“We found out she went to Georgia and Florida on her own free will.”

A hearing for Ms. Smith has been set for 9 a.m. July 8 in Toledo Municipal Court. She could face six months in jail for the first-degree misdemeanor.
