W. Toledo endures rash of air-conditioner thefts

It's not too hot outside, but thieves have found a cool item to steal.

Commercial air-conditioning units have been taken from five businesses, mostly in West Toledo, including a Laundromat and a bar, police said.

The thefts have occurred since about the middle of the month, mostly in the nighttime hours. The units cost at least $2,000 each.

One report from a dentist's office stated the unit that was stolen weighed about 4 tons and that four other units were taken a week earlier.

Because the units are large and heavy, a vehicle — such as a truck or van — may be used to haul them away, police said.
