Girlfriend drops charge against VanLandingham

8/12/2003

A community activist accused of breaking into the North Toledo home of his former girlfriend has been cleared of the charge in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Rick VanLandingham, 34, of 1312 Paxton St., was scheduled for trial yesterday on a burglary charge for allegedly kicking the door of his ex-girlfriend, Evette Camerlin, at 1405 Paxton St.

However, Ms. Camerlin told Judge Ronald Bowman that she did not want to proceed with the case, and asked that the charge be dismissed. Prosecutors dismissed the case.

The charge stems from an incident on May 11 in which Ms. Camerlin told police that Mr. VanLandingham kicked the door of her home during an argument. He allegedly failed to cooperate with police, and yelled obscenities at them. He was charged with resisting arrest. A trial is scheduled for Sept. 3 in Toledo Municipal Court on that misdemeanor charge.
