Toledo police arrested 52 juveniles, about 30 of whom were at a party, for curfew violations in a citywide sweep during the weekend.

Thirty of the youths were boys and 22 were girls. They ranged in age from 11 to 17 years old. About 30 of them were arrested at a party in the area of Belmont Avenue and Heston Street, Sgt. Joe Heffernan said.

The sweep began about 10 p.m. Friday and ended about 3 a.m. Saturday. A few of the youths were booked into the Lucas County Juvenile Detention Center. The rest were released to their parents or guardians.

Officers, who were working overtime, were trying to target underage drinking and areas of neighborhood complaints, authorities said. Future curfew and truancy sweeps are planned.

The curfew, adopted in 1992, prohibits children younger than 11 from going out in public from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Those aged 11 to 15 cannot go outside from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Curfew for 16 and 17-year-olds is from midnight to 5 a.m.
