2 suspects arraigned; Ford lauds detectives

8/21/2003

Two Toledo men charged in connection with a downtown bank robbery Tuesday were arraigned yesterday in Toledo Municipal Court, and two detectives who spotted and followed the suspects before the robbery was reported received kudos from Mayor Jack Ford.

Terrance Clemons, 42, of 1420 North Huron St., and Vincent Oliver, 36, of 818 Fernwood Ave., were being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $25,000 bonds. Each was charged with one count of robbery.

Police said Mr. Clemons robbed the Charter One Bank, 337 North Huron, then jumped into a pickup truck driven by Oliver. Detectives James Scott and Kermit Quinn saw the men acting suspiciously before the robbery alarm came in and followed their truck.

Mr. Clemons jumped from the truck and Detective Quinn ran after him. Detective Scott followed Oliver, who was taken into custody at Lagrange and Ontario streets. Mr. Clemons and a bag of money were found at a house on Elm Street. Yesterday, Mayor Ford gave the detectives proclamations for their efforts.
