Suspect in strangulation turns self in to police

8/28/2003

A suspect sought in the strangulation murder of a Holland man a week ago turned himself in yesterday, Toledo police said.

David S. McCullough, 21, of 746 Prouty Ave., walked into the Safety Building about 3 p.m. He was charged with murder and other charges and booked into the Lucas County jail.

Authorities had sought Mr. McCullough within hours after the Aug. 20 early morning attack on Justin Alley, 21, at 1412 Beecham Street. Alley, of 7017 Washington Drive, died about 4 a.m. in Medical College of Ohio Hospitals.

He died from neck injuries that were associated with “sudden severe rotational injury of the neck or head,” according to a report by Dr. Diane Barnett, a Lucas County deputy coroner. She said he was in a “choke hold” a short time before he was found unresponsive.
