Suspect in burglary, car chase arraigned

A West Toledo man was arraigned yesterday in Toledo Municipal Court on charges of burglarizing an apartment and leading police on a nearly 10-mile chase that ended after officers deployed stop devices.

Christopher Crapsey, 36, of 5555 Lewis Ave., Apt. 121, was being held in the Lucas County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond on charges of aggravated burglary and fleeing and eluding.

Toledo police said he broke into another apartment at the Lewis address, assaulted a woman, and took another woman's car about 11:40 p.m. Thursday. A police sergeant saw him driving on Lewis and tried to stop him at Waybridge Road and Goodwood Avenue, but Mr. Crapsey kept driving, police said.

Another officer joined the chase, which went into Michigan and then returned to Toledo, where officers deployed stop devices on Telegraph Road just north of Alexis Road, police said.

The devices caused the driver's-side wheels to go flat, but Mr. Crapsey continued south on Telegraph, police said. At Laskey Road, his car stopped and he was taken into custody.
