A central Toledo man was shot in the chest allegedly by his brother yesterday after an argument about a car battery, Toledo police said.

Fredrick Jones, 54, of 1710 Belmont Ave., was taken to Toledo Hospital, where he was in surgery yesterday afternoon. His condition was unavailable last night.

His brother, Roosevelt Jones, 58, of the Belmont address, was charged with one count of felonious assault. He was booked into the Lucas County Jail pending arraignment today in Toledo Municipal Court.

The argument outside the men's house about 1:15 p.m. turned into a fight, and Roosevelt Jones went into the residence followed by his brother. Fredrick Jones picked up a stick and threatened his brother, who went into his bedroom and got his handgun, police said.

Roosevelt Jones left his bedroom with the handgun, saw his brother leaving his bedroom, and shot him once in the chest in the upstairs hallway between the two bedrooms, police said.
