Monroe St. Charter One bank robbed by gunman

10/24/2003

A masked man armed with a handgun yesterday robbed a Charter One Bank branch in West Toledo of an undisclosed amount of money, the FBI said.

The man entered the branch at 4260 Monroe St. and Maxwell Road about 11:20 a.m. and brandished a handgun. After the holdup, the man fled with the money, possibly in a mid-1990s four-door, faded, dark-gray, dented Volvo, the FBI said.

The robber was described as black, in his 20s or 30s, about 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing about 185 pounds, and clean-shaven. He was wearing a clear-type Halloween mask, a black leather jacket, and black pants. He was carrying a tan or dark-colored canvas satchel or overnight bag, in which he stashed the money, the FBI said.

The driver of the Volvo, which may or may not have been the getaway car, was described as a black male with short hair who appeared to have a heavy build, the FBI said.
