Pair sought in spate of burglaries at UT

A string of burglaries in unlocked rooms in the International House at the University of Toledo has campus police looking for information on who is committing the dormitory crimes.

Thirteen burglaries have occurred between July and last month with about $9,000 in losses. In most cases cash, debit and credit cards, clothing, video game equipment, and lap top computers were taken.

Police Chief John Dauer said some victims were gone from their rooms for only a few minutes; most were somewhere in the residence hall. Many burglaries happened during the day. “Theft is our biggest problem on campus,” Chief Dauer said, adding that officers will be educating students about locking their rooms and securing their belongings.

Police have identified possible suspects and a suspect vehicle through surveillance video taken from nearby gas stations and convenience stores where the men used or tried to use stolen debit/credit cards.

Both suspects are black.

One is in his late teens or early 20s, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with a thin build, black hair, black bushy eyebrows, and a black moustache. He usually wears a white nylon skull cap.

The other is in his late teens, 6 feet tall, with a thin build, short black hair, and a light black moustache.

The vehicle is a light or white Chevrolet or GMC pickup from the late 1970s or early 1980s. It appears to have a pin stripe, possibly blue, on the side and rust above the driver s-side rear wheel well. The gas hatch lid is missing.
