Serial car thief arraigned for theft of occupied van

A man who took a minivan containing a 75-year-old woman and her 2-year-old grandson was arraigned yesterday in Toledo Municipal Court.

Nash Laraby, 28, was being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of a $60,000 bond on abduction and theft charges. He gave authorities a Rossford address, but court records filed by a Toledo police detective provide an address of 2070 Idaho St. in Toledo.

Laraby is accused of taking a minivan from the Toys R Us store parking lot, 340 New Towne Square Dr., in North Toledo on Saturday. A Monroe woman ran into the store to pick up a child's car seat she bought and left her mother and sleeping son inside the idlingminivan, police said.

As the woman walked out with a store employee carrying the seat, she saw a man in the minivan. The employee tried to stop the suspect, but was nearly hit when the driver sped off. Laraby was arrested minutes later a few blocks away. The woman and child were unhurt.

Laraby has a history of stealing cars, including his own grandmother's vehicle and a Wood County deputy's patrol car while he was handcuffed.
