Jonesville fire damages farm tractor dealership

JONESVILLE, Mich. — Firefighters from several Hillsdale County departments fought stubborn remnants of a fire yesterday morning at a farm tractor dealership, which sustained damage to its repair and parts sections.

The fire was reported at 7:33 p.m. Sunday at Godfrey Bros. John Deere. Firefighters said the west end of the building was engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

Jonesville fire Chief Greg Lank said two-thirds of the building, primarily the sales and display areas, was saved because crews from Hillsdale and from surrounding communities were able to pump large quantities of water on the blaze.

No cause was determined, although the fire is believed to have started in the repair area; a damage estimate was not available. Crews were called back around 5:20 a.m. when flames rekindled, Chief Lank said.
