A fire of suspicious origin last night heavily damaged a single-family house on Newbury Street near Broadway in South Toledo, Battalion Fire Chief Eric Renzhofer said.

Nobody was home when the fire was reported at 9 p.m. at 1029 Newbury. Fire crews arrived within a minute and found fire bursting out of the front and a side of the two-story house owned by Glenna Espinoza, Chief Renzhofer said.

The firefighters had the fire under control at 9:15 p.m. By that time, the wood frame structure was nearly a total loss. Damage to the house was estimated at $32,000, the chief said.
