FREMONT — The former treasurer of the Sandusky County Humane Society has pleaded no contest to charges of stealing money from the organization.

Angela Brown, 40, a former Fremont resident who lives in Bonita Springs, Fla., entered pleas to one count of theft and 13 counts of money laundering during a hearing Monday before Judge Harry Sargeant, Jr., in Sandusky County Common Pleas Court.

In return for pleading no contest, she was entered into a diversion program and ordered to make restitution of $20,646.19 to the humane society, Sandusky County Prosecutor Tom Stierwalt said. If she makes full repayment and has no other convictions in the next two years, the charges will be dismissed.

According to the prosecutor, Brown wrote checks to herself from humane society funds while she was treasurer of the organization between April 30, 2002, and Jan. 6, 2003.
