Police seize marijuana, charge Maumee suspect

2/26/2004

A Maumee man was arrested yesterday after Toledo police seized 100 marijuana plants, worth about $160,000, and growing equipment from a South Toledo warehouse.

Michael Weihrouch, 26, of 616 Southfield Drive, was charged with cultivation of marijuana, drug abuse/possession of marijuana, and possessing criminal tools. He was being held in the Lucas County jail pending an appearance today in Toledo Municipal Court. He was arrested at his home.

Vice squad detectives searched the warehouse at 3631 Marine Rd. about 3 a.m. yesterday as part of a six-week investigation, Sgt. Bob Marzec said. He said the growing system was “state of the art” and included timers, temperature controls, and irrigation and lighting systems. The plants were about two to three feet tall, he said.

This is the second time this week police have confiscated marijuana plants. About 840 plants were found after a fire Monday at 3113 North Detroit Ave. The sergeant said police seize a couple of growing systems a year, particularly in the colder months when the plants can't grow outside.
