Delphos man enters plea in burglaries, escape try

3/4/2004

VAN WERT, Ohio — A Delphos man pleaded guilty yesterday in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court in connection with burglaries and an attempted escape from the local jail.

Donald Allen Brown, 27, pleaded before Judge Charles Steele to two counts of burglary, two counts of theft, and one count of attempted escape, all felonies. Sentencing was scheduled for April 28.

Authorities said Brown was charged with two burglaries in Delphos that occurred early last year.

Brown was charged in the cases after Delphos police tracked calls placed on a cell phone that was reported stolen in one of the burglaries.

Police said Brown placed several calls on the phone, including contacting the Lima Police Department to check whether he had any warrants out against him. He was also caught placing a food order on the cell phone.
