Fight leads to arrest of Hillsdale-area man

3/4/2004

HILLSDALE, Mich. — A Hillsdale-area man was arraigned yesterday on a pair of felony charges after an altercation with another man.

Timothy Allen Stump, 44, is charged with felonious assault and carrying a concealed weapon, both four-year felonies.

According to the Jonesville post of the Michigan State Police, troopers were called to a home in Jefferson Township about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday by Danny Derr, 39, a resident who said a man had threatened him with a gun.

About 10 minutes later, troopers stopped Mr. Stump's car on Grass Lake Road near his residence. When they approached the vehicle, an object crashed through the driver's side window.

Troopers found a loaded .357 Magnum on the road. Sgt. Doug Schutter said the driver apparently threw the gun into the glass as the officers approached. Mr. Stump was arrested without further incident.

He is scheduled for a preliminary exam at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Hillsdale County 2nd District Court.
