Bowling Green police recruiting for patrol program

3/19/2004

BOWLING GREEN - Police are looking for city residents and Bowling Green State University students interested in walking the beat in neighborhoods near downtown.

The Citizens on Patrol program was launched in the fall of 2000 as a way for residents and students to help deter criminal activity in neighborhoods. C.O.P. members must be at least 18 and complete a four-hour training course.

Once trained, they are given two-way radios that allow them to contact police if they witness suspicious activity.

The citizen patrols are out from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
