Loss put at $30,000 in Fremont O-I fire

4/26/2004

FREMONT - A preliminary loss estimate from a Saturday night fire at an Owens-Illinois, Inc., plant here was tallied at $30,000 by the Fremont Fire Department.

The fire reported at 10:18 p.m. broke out in a warehouse of the plastic bottle manufacturing plant. Fire investigators had not determined yesterday how it started, city fire Lt. John Burmeister said.

Nor had they determined how much inventory might have been lost to smoke and water damage. The fire activated three sprinkler heads in the warehouse, Lieutenant Burmeister said.

Eleven Fremont firefighters were called to the building at 725 Industrial Drive in the city's northern tip.

No injuries were reported.
