A 36-year-old Rossford man was arrested yesterday shortly after he allegedly robbed a South Toledo bank, authorities said.

Paul Villa-Gomez, whose last name also has been spelled Villagomez, was ordered held in the Lucas County jail on a bank robbery charge after making an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Toledo.

He is accused of robbing the KeyBank branch at 1612 Broadway about 9:30 a.m. A few minutes later, he was arrested by Toledo police Sgt. Sam Harris.

The sergeant, who was in his police car, saw a man matching the robber's description, followed him, then jumped out and chased him a short distance before arresting him in an alley in the 500 block of Western Avenue. Money from the robbery was recovered.
