Police seek assistance solving store robbery

5/8/2004

Toledo police are seeking information through the Crime Stopper program about a robbery yesterday at a West Toledo convenience store during which a clerk was punched twice in the face.

The robber entered the 7-Eleven at 2601 West Bancroft St. about 5 a.m., selected a bag of chips, approached the counter, and asked for $20.

The clerk refused to give him the money.

The robber then walked around the counter, punched the clerk in the face, and demanded money, police said.

When the clerk said he couldn't open the cash drawer, the robber again struck him in the face and demanded money.

The clerk opened the drawer, and the robber took $100 before running east on West Bancroft, police said.

The robber was described as black, 28 to 30 years old, 5 feet, 9 inches tall, about 190 pounds with a stocky build.

He was bald, had brown eyes, and was wearing a blue denim shirt and a blue T-shirt.

He had his hand in his pocket, acting as if he had a weapon, but none was seen, police said.

Anyone with information about the robbery or any other crimes is asked to call the Crime Stopper program.

Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
