Storage area damaged at Secor Rd. eatery

5/13/2004

A fire at Don's Trilby Tavern, a Secor Road eatery known locally for its steaks, caused extensive damage last night to a storage area at the rear of the building.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the structure and had trouble gaining access because the doors were locked. The tavern usually closes about 10 p.m.

A 911 caller reported the fire at 10:42 p.m. Fire crews put in a call for a second pumper six minutes later, Battalion Chief Tony Gregory said. The blaze was brought under control at 11:06 p.m. No damage estimate was available.

The restaurant, 5547 Secor Rd., is tucked onto a parcel alongside Brondes Ford, 5717 Secor.
