Special prosecutor named for probe of mayor's son

LIMA, Ohio - A special prosecutor was appointed yesterday to handle any charges that may result from an underage drinking party allegedly hosted by Mayor David Berger's 18-year-old son last week.

City Law Director Tony Geiger said Colleen Limmerick, an assistant prosecutor in Hardin County, was appointed to the case to avoid any appearance of special treatment because Michael Berger is the mayor's son.

Police were called to the Berger residence May 7 after receiving an anonymous noise complaint.

Officers, who confiscated two kegs of beer, said several of the party-goers were under the legal drinking age.

The mayor and his wife were not home at the time, officers said.
