Help needed to solve building material thefts

6/12/2004

TEMPERANCE - Monroe County sheriff's deputies are looking for help in finding a van they believe was used in at least one and perhaps several thefts of construction materials in Bedford Township.

A witness saw a red, older-model, full-sized panel van with a white bumper and a loud exhaust fleeing the scene of a theft in the Northern Pines subdivision off Jackman Road early Monday morning.

Lumber, plywood, roofing materials, and tools were stolen from a construction site in the subdivision. The theft was one of three in the township during the past 10 days, and one of several from elsewhere in southern Monroe County.

Sheriff's Detective Tom Redmond said he is not sure whether the same van was involved in the theft Thursday of more than $11,000 worth of power, air, and hand tools from a construction site in Lambertville along Secor Road, just north of Sterns Road. Sheriff's deputies and detectives are also investigating that incident.

Anyone with information pertaining to any of the thefts is asked to call the Bedford Township substation at 734-847-6146 or the Monroe County Sheriff's Department at 734-240-7530.
