Six pounds of psilocybin mushrooms with an estimated street value of more than $40,000 were seized and a man was arrested yesterday when authorities searched his Sylvania Township home after a four-month investigation.
Growing and dried mushrooms, small amounts of cocaine and marijuana, and drug paraphernalia were seized about 1 a.m. at 4741 Sadalia Rd., police said.
Kenneth Kuyoth, 28, was charged with aggravated possession of drugs, illegal manufacturing of drugs, possession of drugs, and two minor misdemeanor drug charges. He was being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $80,000 bond after arraignment in Sylvania Municipal Court.
Sylvania police Detective Mike Yunker said the investigation connected Mr. Kuyoth to sales of the hallucinogenic drug to high school students. He declined to identify which schools the students attend.
The detective said the mushrooms were grown in a makeshift dog kennel in an enclosed area in the backyard.
