N. Toledo man arraigned in noisy fireworks display

A North Toledo man charged after a Sunday night fireworks

display that shook nearby homes and porches and covered

the area with soot and garbage turned himself in Thursday and

was arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court.

Juan D. Mata, 45, of 55 East Pearl St. pleaded not guilty and

was released on supervised recognizance on three misdemeanor

charges of possession and discharge of fi reworks, littering,

and a noise violation.

He told police the night of the party that he was in charge.

Neighbors said loud music accompanied the fi reworks and

the party, which included about 50 people and lasted until early

Monday morning.

The fireworks were launched from the backyards of 51 and 55 East Pearl. The debris covered surrounding houses and businesses

for almost a city block.
