A central Toledo man was shot in the groin yesterday after an argument about a prior burglary, and the alleged shooter was charged in the assault.

Anthony Barton, 49, was in fair condition in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center after the 12:45 a.m. shooting. Police issued a warrant charging John Cavitt, 25, of 1129 Dorr St., with felonious assault. He was not in custody last night.

Mr. Barton told police Cavitt and two other men came to his apartment at 1117 Palmwood Ave., looking for property that Mr. Barton's son allegedly took from Cavitt. Mr. Barton said he told Cavitt if his son had taken anything, he would find him and return the property, police said.

During the argument, Cavitt threatened to kill another person and told Mr. Barton he didn't want to fight with him. He then pulled out a 22-caliber handgun and fired a shot, striking Mr. Barton in the groin, police said.
