Man accused in '03 death arrested on gun charge

TIFFIN - A Seneca County man accused of killing an Attica-area resident last year has been freed on his own recognizance after being arrested last week on a weapons charge.

Don Bishop, 43, of Attica pleaded not guilty Monday in Seneca County Common Pleas Court to one count of having a weapon while under disability, a fifth-degree felony. Judge Michael Kelbley released Mr. Bishop despite a request from county Prosecutor Ken Egbert, Jr., to set a cash bond of $25,000.

Mr. Bishop posted $100,000 last month to secure his release under a $1 million, 10 percent bond set by Judge Kelbley in the aggravated murder case against him. Authorities allege that Mr. Bishop shot Jeffrey Williams, 47, to death outside a barn on U.S. 224 in July, 2003.
