Man who fled to Florida is arraigned in shooting

8/11/2004

A local man arrested in Florida more than three months ago on a Toledo murder warrant was arraigned yesterday in Toledo Municipal Court.

Roderick Upperdite, 31, who has addresses on Hollywood and Maplewood avenues in Toledo, was being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $500,000 bond. He is charged with aggravated murder in the March shooting of John Michael May, Jr. In April, he was taken into custody without incident in Broward County, Florida.

May, 28, of Blackstone Drive, was found shot in the head March 15 at 1014 Peck St. He died two days later in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Court records indicate the suspect shot May and took his wallet before fleeing.
