Toledo officer injured at domestic violence call

A Toledo police officer suffered a twisted knee yesterday when she was pushed off a porch in East Toledo where she had responded to a domestic violence complaint.

Officer Connie Lepla was treated at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Michael Vasquez, 21, of 5732 Gay St., was being held in the Lucas County jail last night on charges of assault, resisting arrest, and a warrant from Oregon police for telephone harassment.

Mr. Vasquez was on the porch at 607 Berry St. about 1 a.m. arguing with a woman when Officer Lepla arrived. When she told him he was under arrest, he pushed her off the four-step high porch and ran across Nevada Street and into an alley between Main Street and Euclid Avenue, police said.

Officers found him hiding between a fence and a garage and took him into custody.
