GENOA - A Clay Township police sergeant has been suspended while Oregon police investigate allegations that he made a series of unsolicited phone calls to a former girlfriend.

Sgt. Terry A. Mitchell, 40, of Genoa is charged with one count of telephone harassment, Oregon police Chief Tom Gulch said yesterday.

The chief said an Oregon resident contacted police in mid-July and alleged "that she was the recipient of telephone harassment."

Chief Gulch said police subpoenaed telephone records and found numerous phone calls to the woman's number from Sergeant Mitchell's cell phone from the beginning of June until mid-July.

Clay Township police Chief Roger Schultze could not be reached for comment yesterday.
