A University of Toledo student charged in a melee at an off-campus house party last month pleaded not guilty yesterday during an arraignment in Toledo Municipal Court.

Terrance Partee, 20, of North Carolina is charged with misdemeanor assault. His bond was continued, and he is scheduled for a pretrial hearing Oct. 1. A motion for a criminal stalking protection order, signed by the victim, also was filed in the case.

Mr. Partee, on indefinite suspension from the football team, and ex-UT player Joseph Kay, 22, of Temperance, were charged after the Aug. 22 fight in the house at 2155 Alvin St.

Mr. Partee is accused of punching a student, Don Kopchak, 20, on the face, causing him to crash through a window.

Mr. Kay was charged with felonious assault and was scheduled to return to court Oct. 19. Police said he punched and pushed another UT student, Mark Heck, 20, into a window. Mr. Kay, a fourth-string defensive lineman, was kicked off the football team by Coach Tom Amstutz.
