MADD dinner to honor top DUI enforcers

9/25/2004

The Greater Toledo Area chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Drivers will honor 22 law enforcement officers - those who made the most drunken-driving arrests in 2003 - at the group's fourth annual law enforcement recognition dinner tonight.

The top award will go to Trooper Bill Bowers, who works at the Ohio Highway Patrol's Walbridge post. He made 240 DUI arrests last year, and will be recognized with the Helen Lytle award.

The top five officers from smaller communities include Oregon police Officer Mike Blazevich, with 80 arrests; Ottawa Hills police Officer Mark Deters, 65 arrests; Sylvania Township police Officer John Tanner, 72 arrests; Rossford police Officer Randy Baker, 50 arrests, and Hancock County sheriff's Deputy Mike Cortez, 49 arrests.
