Nearly 20 arrests made in UT, BGSU crackdown

9/25/2004

Nearly 20 arrests were made during the first night of a three-day operation to crack down on alcohol-related offenses on university campuses and surrounding neighborhoods, officials said yesterday.

The arrests were made Thursday night and into early yesterday morning, said Earl Mack, head of the Toledo office of the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

All but one of the 18 arrests were for alcohol offenses, Mr. Mack said.

Officers from the campus and city police departments and liquor control agents combined forces at Bowling Green State University and the University of Toledo.

Mr. Mack said the law enforcement personnel were focusing their efforts on responding to complaints about parties and other such problems.

The same operation was conducted again in both towns last night, with the sting planned for only Toledo tonight because it marks the university's first home football game of the season.
