A Toledo man was beaten and cut outside the New Triangle Cafe, 1202 Broadway, early yesterday morning.

Hector Alvarado, 54, of 417 Hiett Ave., was in serious condition in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center yesterday afternoon, a hospital spokesman said.

Witnesses said Mr. Alvarado was in the bar for about three hours before an argument started with another patron before closing.

Employees said after the bar closed, they heard a man screaming outside and called 911. Police arrived about 2:28 a.m. and found Mr. Alvarado on the sidewalk with a swollen jaw, cuts on his left cheek, and blood on his left ear. Authorities found a knife near the victim.

Lt. Bill Moton said reports indicated Mr. Alvarado fought with one person outside the cafe.
